This paper explores the possibility of building an augmented reality (AR) smart system with a certain degree of artificial intelligence in order to recognize the components and their properties from the environment. The elements of the environment can be buildings, access roads, vegetation and so on. All of these can be accessed with AR devices, intelligent glasses, or smartphones displays. The buildings' facades and the access routes, or any other form of geographical relief from the

The paper presents the different existing applications of AR systems with emphasizes on the tourism field, discussing the potential of further development, the particular aspects concerning the conceptual elements of an AR based model design for postindustrial tourism development.
