Initially, a digital elevation model, building databases and a vegetation model are processed to generate azimuthelevation maps of path states (clear, shadowed and blocked) for observers. At each simulation step, satellite positions are updated and azimuths and elevations of paths from satellites to observers
more » ... observers calculated. Signal strengths are assigned to paths with the aid of a random number generator for each path state and used to update histograms for the occurrence of different path-state mixtures and fade levels, considering (or not) handover or path diversity.
