The Design of Model based ECU Software for Retarder System in Commercial Vehicle

This paper describes the design of model based retarder ECU (Electronic Control Unit) software which is first developed in Korea in order to apply the commercial vehicle. The ECU of retarder system has a specific control function regarding manual braking mode and automatic braking mode to optimize the braking performance of retarder system. Manual braking mode is separated into mode 1, mode 2, and mode 3 in relation to the maximum braking torque by retarder lever selection of driver.
