Euphorbiaceae, a large and almost cosmopolitan family, exhibit a consider able range of variation in habit, morphology, embryology and chromosome number. Also, the wood produced by its members is said to be variable in density, color, lustre and strength (Pearson and Brown 1932) . A comprehensive cytological survey in such a family is desirable from the evolutionary aspect.
