Valvular heart disease is common in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and antiphospholipid syndrome. Immunologic insult plays a fundamental role in its pathogenesis but data on the role of antiphospholipid antibodies have been inconsistent, particularly regarding SLE-associated valvular lesions.
