Antimicrobial resistance is associated with adverse patient outcomes and increased resource utilization. With limited options of antibiotics in pipeline, the effective clinician in today's hospital environment must utilize all available laboratory and clinical data in the selection of the optimal antibiotic therapy for the critically ill patient.
