The discipline of cybernetics spans a field where information theory, general systems theory, or digital computers could be integrated. In a series of important conferences Norbert Wiener's approach toggled between the idea of a new universal science describing everything from radio receivers to psychology or ethnography and a formal mathematical model for well-defined information processes and control.
