A Study on the Improvement of Teaching Practicum through the Analysis of the Perceptions of Mentor Teachers

This study focused on the experience and awareness of the teaching practicum guidance teachers and to find its implications. To this end, researchers used questionnaires and interviewing methods for teachers with experience in teaching practicum. Data collected through interviews were classified into four large categories and 21 small categories based on meaningful statements. The analysis found that while awareness of the current codition of practicum was generally negative, there were dual situations in which positive and negative aspects were recognized simultaneously for the awareness of the actual practicum guidence. In addition, positive perceptions of 'important' and 'necessary' were derived regarding the content of the practicum. There were also two conflicting awareness about the model of teaching practicum: 'necessary' and 'unnecessary'; however, more opinions were raised that it was necessary. In particular, the teaching practicum models teachers recognize as necessary based on their experience are "simple models", "universal models", "standard models", "orkbook models", "flexible models", "student life maps" and "qualitative assessment models." From these analyses, the researchers found that they needed an teaching practicum model that could address the difficult, hard, burdensome, and aggravated elements of the field and reflect the characteristics of various school sites.
