MMP MSFC) as P r o j e c t Manager. ii ABSTRACT I -A process has been developed f o r s u c c e s s f u l l y c a s t i n g a number of prototype aerospace components u s i n g t h e t e r n a r y magnesium-lithiums i l i c o n a l l o y . These components c o n t a i n e d many of the design elements a n t i c i p a t e d i n aerospace hardware of t h i s type. It was found t h a t conventional magnesium sand foundry practice was not s a t i s f a c t o r y . A new molding material, based upon

Melting and pouring p r a c t i c e was a l s o modified t o cope w i t h the r e a c t i v e n a t u r e of t h e a l l o y .
