A mixture of proligand 1 (600 mg, 1.38 mmol) and Fe 3 (CO) 12 (180 mg, 0.46 mmol) is refluxed in toluene (15 mL) overnight. Filtration and removal of the toluene gave a green solid, which was washed with hexane to yield the iron complex 3 (523 mg, 0.94 mmol, 85 %. Preparation of (Cp-NHC)Fe(CO)I (4) (Cp = η 5 -C 5 H 4 ) This was obtained following a similar procedure using proligand 2 (600 mg, 1.38 mmol) and Fe 3 (CO) 12 (180 mg, 0.46 mmol). Yield 83 %.
