The total energies of the stars in Eggen's (1969) list of stars with high velocities perpendicular to the galactic plane have been evaluated in three galactic mass models. A larger sample of the subdwarfs and the short-period cepheids, with high velocities perpendicular to the galactic plane, could provide data to test the bounds of their absolute luminosities and provide information to determine the Galaxy's size and the local galactic gravitational potential providing the stars are not
