and Hypothesis: In the US alone, more than 160,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer each year. Prostate cancer grows slowly in many patients such that most die due to unrelated causes, yet 29,000 prostate cancer-related deaths occur annually in the US. The gravity of this mortality rate promotes over-treatment of low- and intermediate-risk cancer patients as well as monitoring of cancer via invasive biopsies to determine cancer grade.
