This study is a contribution to the 'class debate'. The class and hierarchy perspectives are discussed within the context of the discussion on cross-class families. The author presents a modified neo-classical approach to the classification of cross-class families: the position of the spouse whose class culture is supposed to be better-crystallised counts.
