AbstractAn accidentally retained sponge inside the body of a patient (gossypiboma) is a rare and serious adverse event after a surgical procedure with serious medicolegal implications and complications. It is commonly associated with abdominal surgeries with cholecystectomy most commonly implicated. Whorl-like appearance or mottled translucencies and radiopaque marker on imaging is diagnostic.
