Lateral mass screws are very useful for cervical fusion. We report the short-term results of cervical fusion surgery with lateral mass screws. We evaluated 13 patients from 2005 to 2011. Though all screws were inserted bicortically, there was no complication. There was no screw breakage in the short-term follow-up. Cervical pedicle screws also demonstrated a significantly higher resistance to pullout forces than did lateral mass screws. Lateral mass screws can be fixed adequately and inserted
