Oops... I Did It Again! Accidental Embarrassing Exposures on Synchronous Social Messaging

This study aims to understand how online identity interruption can impact psychological distress and how psychological distress drives coping intentions in using synchronous social messaging services. To operationalize the study, a 2x2 full factorial laboratory experiment will be conducted. Results are expected to enrich current understanding on self-expression and regretful feeling associated with accidental embarrassing exposures. Expected implications are discussed.
