The specific family of Device-to-Device (D2D) communication underlying downlink cellular networks eliminates the reliance on base stations (BS) for its transmission by allowing direct transmission between two devices in each other's close proximity that reuse the cellular resource blocks for enhancing the attainable network capacity and spectrum efficiency.
