Some aspects of Kaluza-Klein theory

Five dimensional Kaluza-Klein theory is described from the historical viewpoint. This theory is then generalised firstly for a non-Abelian group and then for the specific group SU(2) x U(1). The calculation of the scalar curvature of the extended manifold is performed using Cartan's structure equations. The role of Killing vectors is heavily emphasized in this treatment. Using certain results from this calculation an eight dimensional Dirac equation is derived and then simplified. Each term in
