Innexin is a structural component of invertebrate gap junctions. The molecular dimensions of Caenorhabditis elegans innexin-6 (INX-6) gap junction channels were characterized by negative-staining electron microscopy. Cryo-electron microscopy and single particle analysis of purified INX-6 channels showed class averages with eight rotational peaks that would be related to the INX-6 subunits.
