A formal computational model for distributed systems and in particular for distributed multimedia applications derived frorn the Reference Model on Open Distributed Processing is defined and presented. The formal definition is based on the standardized formal description technique LOTOS introducing the LOTOS sub-language approach. This approach is applied to the ODP computationsllanguage yielding a sub-language LOTOScomp.
