Quanti tati ve estimation of water f ront acti vi ties in an urban ri ver set ting Hirok i FUK UNAGA ( zros加ma rnυ ersi ty) Har uo HA Y ASHI (K yoto rnυ erstty) This study investi gated the relationship between the environmental factor of an ur ban river setting and acti vi ties that occur i n the set ti ng. Acti vi ties on the water front were defined as get ti ng together for a special pur pose and consciousl y or unconsciousl y integrating the water front into their life. This st ud y took

The pur pose of this st udy was to quantif y the water front activ i ties and to estimate the ri ver setting b y cl uster anal ysis. Seven t ypes of affor dance emer ged f rom the r iver setting. Zones were div ided into t wo t ypes: those having common behavioral char acter istics throughout four seasons and those having different behavioral character istics for each season. T wo t ypes of affordance com position seemed to be discovered from the river set ting: one is determ ined by engineering factors while the other is determ ined b y both engi neer ing and weather factors.
