GEONOMICS VS GEOGRAPHY AND GEOLOGY: CONFUSION OR NEW DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES?

In 2013, the Republic of Moldova has decreed both the emergence of "geonomics", a supposedly new branch of science, and the application of new scientific titles of Doctor or Doctor Habilitatus in Geonomics – to the detriment of those in geographic and geological sciences. The published materials show that the existing definitions of "geonomics" are totally contradictory and its emergence as a new science, and respectively these new scientific titles, are not officially recognized and
more » ... alized in the states of the world countries, except for the Republic of Moldova. Analyzing of the existing definitions of "geonomics" and its concordance with the main criteria for a new independent branch of science (object of research and the existence of a concise, unambiguous and clear definition of it; methodological arsenal characteristic for the new field of research; accepted general terminology; theoretical problems and as well as areas of its practical application), the author concludes that the confirming of the "geonomics" as a new branch of science is premature, and replacement of Geography and Geology with this new notion leads to new confusions in both methodological area as well as in their applied studies and not to new development opportunities.
