Protection of Transmission Line Based on the Severity Index Using Generation Rescheduling Strategy

The overload of the transmission line is a serious problem in the protection of power systems. To eliminate this problem, it is necessary to keep the transmission network immune to the undesired conditions. The effectiveness of the proposed DE-based protection plan was compared with those generated by the genetic algorithm (GA) in the same power system. Two conditions were created for the comparison, namely, the N-1 contingency condition based on the normal case, and the perturbation demand condition. The results show that the proposed protection plan outperformed that generated by the GA in minimum fuel cost, computing speed and convergence. The research results provide a new and effective way to protect power systems against possible overload of the transmission line.
