The airport is the frontier between the outside world and the State in which the airline passenger lands. It is also the final point at which a person can be checked before embarking on a flight. Moreover, the aerodrome is where cargo is loaded into an aircraft before takeoff. Therefore, security at the airport carries multiple dimensions, from border control to body scanning; from cargo security to security of the aircraft and its passengers. Facilities such as online check-in where airlines can check in passengers through their mobile services, ease congestion at the terminal check in counters; mobile devices and hand held terminals with Wi-Fi connections; biometric technology and passenger tracking technologies all go to ensure a more efficient and secure airport operation. Pilots and aircrew have iPads and other tablets to deliver critical information and data; and passengers have smart phone apps top report any suspicious behaviour in their vicinity. R.
