WiMAX-based overlay conferencing service

This paper proposes a new service architecture based on the interconnectivity between Subscriber Units (SUs) running on WiMAX network participating in an Application Layer Multicasting-based distributed multimedia conference. The novelty of the proposal is that it replaces the standard centralized architecture of IMS-based conference in order to utilize the intelligence and computational capacity of WiMAX Base stations. Thank to a distributed architecture, the expensive Media Resource Function
more » ... Resource Function Controller (MRFC) and Media Resource Function Processor (MRFP) can be completely omitted in this proposal. Experimental results show that the proposed architecture outperforms the previous system. Afterward, a prototype has been built to measure and prove the advanced performance of the proposed architecture.
