Abstract: Aseriesofwell鄄definedpolydimethylsiloxane鄄b鄄poly(ethyleneoxide)(PDMS鄄b鄄PEO)amphiphilicdiblock copolymersweresynthesizedbythecombineduseofanionicring鄄openingpolymerizationofhexamethylcyclotrisioxane (D 3 )with n鄄butyllithiumastheinitiatorandhydrosilationbetweenSi-HterminatedPDMSandallyterminatedPEO homopolymers.ThestructuresofPDMSandamphiphilicdiblockcopolymersPDMS鄄b鄄PEOwereverifiedbynuclear
more » ... showedmonomodalgelpermeationchromatography(GPC)traceswhichindicatednarrowmolecularweightdistributions (MWDs).Additionally,thesolutionpropertiesofthesediblockcopolymerswereinvestigatedusingtensiometryand transmissionelectronmicroscopy(TEM).Theequilibriumsurfacetension 酌 andcriticalmicelleconcentration(cmc)of PDMS鄄b鄄PEOinanaqueoussolutionwasalsoinvestigated.Interestingly,thecmcincreasesasthelengthofthe hydrophobicchainincreases.TransmissionelectronmicroscopyshowedthatPDMS鄄b鄄PEOdiblockcopolymersinthe aqueoussolutionself鄄assembledintovariousmorphologiesincludingspheres,rods,andvesicleaggregates.
