ANNUAL MEETING OF MONTREAL BRANCH

1913 Canadian Entomologist
s report from Waldo, Oregon, actually does deai with caliJornica. He cites the larr.a as completely stripping the foliage off grease-wood and mountain lilac. We do not knorv just what is meant by this latter plant, but believe that Ceanothus is often iocaily called grease-rn'ood. From this report it u.ould seern that there is some danger, when vast numbcrs of the larvie are present, of fruit trees being attacked, but it is apparent that only 'lr,'hen the naiural food supply is exhausted rvould

We notc that it is distinctly statecl that "they seemcd to care for nothing to speak of but grease-rvood and lilac", and the fact that "tons" of them perished cn \\'ater and land in their vain search for a further food supply only goes to support our previous statement that cali;forn, ica is very restricted in its choice for food plants and the idea of its being lield responsible for damage to alfalfa ancl other crops rnay be banished as so imorobable as to be almost ridiculous.
