English is undoubtedly the international lingua franca, and this fact has turned it into the vehicle and distinguishing mark of the globalised era in the fields of commerce, politics, diplomacy, general communications and the internet. However, this paper will deal specifically with the challenges faced by English literature in the age of globalisation. more » ... mic conflicts this involves for the compilation of anthologies, for curricular development, for publications, and so forth; b) the nature and development of a "national" versus an "international" or "transna-tional" literature and its implications in the field of postcoloniality and the "new world order"; and c) the role played in the extension of the concept of English literature by English writers who are part of migrations and diasporas in present day United Kingdom and how this affects their feelings of being and belonging, their writing itself, and the reception of their works by the media and readers.
