Aim: To determine the level of knowledge of the population aged 20 to 50 years of age on chronic renal failure. Material and Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted on 138 people in the center of Pachuca, Hidalgo area. Results: The range for age was 26-43 years old, 30% professionals high school with 16% showed better knowledge, 66% declared hypertensive and 22% diabetic, noting that this had no bearing on their level of knowledge. more » ... t was found that 55% had poor or bad knowledge, while 45% had good knowledge. Discussion. This study allows to detect areas of opportunity transcendent knowledge of people at risk and implement prevention strategies, which highlights the need for intervention in health education by the institutions. Conclusions: The level of knowledge of the population is poor, ideas mistaken for coping with chronic renal failure, educating people to prevent it, has proven to have an impact on the incidence and prevalence, it requires greater joint efforts in prevention and promotion, as well as the level of understanding of this disease.
