An approach simple, but effective, to determine automatically the emotional valence of a sentence consists in using the valence of the words which it contains. The problem is that the effectiveness of this procedure depends on the number of words contained in the sentence whose valence is known. To bypass this limitation, we describe several procedures allowing to determine automatically the emotional valence of words on the basis of their use in corpora.
