A SURVEY ON DENTISTS' PERCEPTIONS OF DENTINE HYPERSENSITIVITY AND KNOWLEDGE OF ITS TREATMENT

Aim: To conduct a survey on dentists' perceptions of dentine hypersensitivity and knowledge of its treatment. Materials and methods: A survey was conducted among 100 dental practionners of Saveetha Dental College, Chennai. A self administered questionnaire was distributed and descriptive data in terms of percentage was analysed. A majority(56%) of them used air flow/cold blast technique to detect and diagnose and 88% identified cold stimuli to be main triggering factor for Dentin hypersensitivity. 71% identified tooth wear as the common cause for dentin hypersensitivity and the commonest management strategy employed by 79% of the dentists was to prescribe desensitizing tooth paste.
