The fol low ing cor re la tion was for mu lated: w L/cone = 0.91w L/cup + 1.98. The anal ysis pre sented in this pa per proves that de riv ing a gen er al ized and uni ver sal re la tion ship w L/cup /w L/cone for all co he sive soils, re gard less of their or i gin, is very chal leng ing and may not be re li able for use in the en gi neer ing prac tice. It is ver i fied that, in the range of low val ues of liq uid limit, the cone pen etrom eter gives higher val ues of w L than those ob tained from the Casagrande ap pa ra tus. How ever, for the Pol ish postglacial soils ana lysed in this pa per, the cone pen etrom eter un der es timates the re sults in re la tion to the Casagrande ap pa ra tus above w L = 22%. For the pur pose of this study, w L = 22% was defined as "the point of equiv a lent re sults" (w L/cone = w L/cup ).
