Selama 6 bulan kami melakukan observasi, wawancara mendalam, dan studi literatur, terhadap fenomena modernitas masyarakat desa di Kampung Nyarumkop. Penelitian ini mengungkap feomena akseptasi modernitas pada masyarakat desa, terjadi karena terdapatnya domain psikologi, domain sosial dan domain budaya yang memiliki aspek keterbukaan terhadap hal-hal baru di luar diri mereka. Keterbukaan pada tiga domain ini mendorong etnis Dayak di Kampung Nyarumkop dalam menerima kehadiran Tradisi Barat melalui misionaris Gereja Katolik. Modernitas yang terjadi pada masyarakat pedesaan tampak dalam gejala global village di kampung Nyarumkop. Namun demikian, orang-orang Dayak tersebut tidak bisa secara total melepaskan diri dari ikatan tradisinya, sehingga terjadi juga gejala detradisionalisasi sebagai gejala modernitas. This study aims to describe the phenomenon of acceptance of modernity that occurs in Nyarumkop, Singkawang City. When the Dayak tradition is met with the tradition of the Catholic Church, then do the two traditions influence each other? Or does it happen accordingly? Or do they "give" and "receive"? Answering this research question, we have conducted research on the Dayak people in Nyarumkop Village. Nyarumkop village as the center of the Catholic Church's mission schooling certainly represents modernity. This study uses a cultural anthropological approach with ethnographic procedures. For 6 months we conducted observations, in-depth interviews, and literature studies, on the phenomenon of the modernity of rural communities in Nyarumkop village. This study reveals the phenomenon of acceptance of modernity in rural communities, occurs because of the psychological domain, social domain and cultural domain that have aspects of openness to new things outside of themselves. Openness to these three domains encourages the Dayak ethnic group in Nyarumkop Village to accept the presence of Western Tradition through Catholic Church missionaries. Modernity that occurs in rural communities can be seen in the global village phenomenon in Nyarumkop village. However, the Dayak people cannot totally break away from their traditional ties, so there is also a symptom of detraditionalization as a symptom of modernity.
