Railway turnout systems are one of the most important components of railway infrastructure. Their geographically distributed nature makes failure detection, forecasting, and maintenance planning more critical. more » ... cability of any engineering model requires economic and practicality justification. This paper presents an analysis of different prognostics methods in railway turnout systems. Namely, the paper independently analyses five different sensors installed in a real turnout system used in Turkish State Railways by applying various prognostic methods. This paper aims to guide practitioners for the deployment of PHM technologies in railway turnout systems by providing advantages and disadvantages of using different sensors and prognostics methods.
