The cigarette smoking during pregnancy is thought to induce the dysfunction of emotional and cognitive function of offspring. In our previous studies, we have reported that prenatal nicotine exposure affects the proliferation and maturation of progenitor cells to glutamatergic and dopaminergic neurons during neurodevelopment in the medial PFC, which may be associated with behavioral impairments in the offspring.
