In 1967, Fujiwara and Moritani reported a type of cross coupling reaction where an aromatic C-H bond is directly coupled to an olefinic C-H bond, generating a new C-C bond in the first time. This reaction is performed in the presence of a transition metal, and typically palladium. In the next few decades, palladium-catalyzed oxidative coupling reactions have become an important method in organic synthesis, and a lot of achievements in scientific research have emerged in the relevant areas.
