A multi-disciplinary approach was used to investigate and control the vibration of a 1.7MW gas turbine impeller. Three techniques were used. First, determination of natural frequencies by Spectral Analysis of an impulse on the impeller. Second, Electronic Speckle-pattern Interferometry (ESPI) to assertain the modal shape of each natural frequency. Finally, 3-dimensional finite element analysis (3DFEA) of the whole impeller.
