Mean excitation energies of atoms using the local plasma approximation

Mean excitation energies of atoms have been calculated based on a local plasma approximation. A treatment for atomic shell-wise contributions to the mean excitation energy has been established. The effect of plasma damping was included by an empirical approach. Electron density distributions of atoms have been obtained using the Hartree-Fock-Slater model. Results of this work are compared with those of the detailed matrix element evaluations.
