George Adam Smith to his new position as Principal of The University at Aberdeen, Scotland. This position is filled by royal appointment. The special significance of the present appointment lies in the fac that no minister of the Free Church has ever before been called to the principalship of either of the four universities in Scotland, such positions heretofore having been held by members of the Established Church (Presbyterian). more » ... Testament teaching in the Free Church College, Glasgow, concurrently with the administration of the University at Aberdeen, one hundred and thirteen miles away. While the principal's duties will leave no time for teaching, it is to be hoped that Dr. Smith's valuable Old Testament scholarship will not be wholly laid aside from active service. This we should seriously deprecate, scarcely regarding the honor of the principalship, great as it is, as sufficient compensation for the cessation of that rich series of volumes illuminating the Old Testament, which all interpreters now regard as indispensable.
