An acid protease-producing yeast, Rhodotorula glutinis K-24 was aerobically cultured in the presence or absence of S-PI which was an acid protease inhibitor and obtained from Streptomyces naniwaensis. S-PI did inhibit the growth of yeast at higher temperature, but accerelat it at lower temperature. S-PI affected also the formation of cellular pigmentation. These effects were observed at about pH 3. 0 with lesser effect at higher pH.
