Using Augmented Reality to Enhance Interpretative Exhibitions within Cultural Sites

This research looks at how digital technologies such as spatial augmented reality, interactive displays and participatory activities can enhance a visit to an interpretative exhibition within a cultural site. The aim was to see how it impacts the educational, engagement and immersive qualities of a visitor attraction, and how the physical space can be enhanced by these technologies. more » ... data was collected from participants. The data revealed that augmented reality does enhance visitor engagement with the space. It also shows that interactive activities are the most successful in creating engagement and knowledge transfer, and that focusing on ways to increase social engagement between participants allows for a deeper experience. It also confirms that a user can simultaneously learn from the activities and be impressed by the technologies employed, with neither overshadowing the other.
