Just the facts: febrile neutropenia in the emergency department setting

A 43-year-old female with ovarian cancer presents to the emergency department (ED) with fever 6 days after her last chemotherapy session. She describes fatigue but has no other symptoms. Her vital signs are remarkable for an oral temperature 38.4 o C without antipyretic, heart rate 109, and blood pressure 108/69 mmHg.
