The first Superman comics were published during the New Deal. The problems faced by the New Deal (financial speculation, corruption, poverty, unemployment, social security) can be found in the comics. Siegel and Shuster, like many comics authors, were American Jews, a social group that typically supported Roosevelt and his politics.
