Summary: maternal mortality is the most important indicator of women's reproductive health, reflecting not only the level of socio-economic well-being, but also the availability, safety and quality of obstetric and gyneco-logical care. Based on official statistics, maternal mortality in the Russian Federation has been declining in recent years, but still remains high in comparison with other countries. The review article analyzes the structure of mater-nal mortality in the Russian Federation.
