This paper investigates the role of chirality and its impact on the electronic band structure and the density of states in armchair and zigzag single-walled carbon nanotubes. Electronic band structures and the density of states for various chirality values has been analytically studied and verified using simulation approach. It has been observed that with the increase in chirality, the total number of bands in the electronic band structure gets increased and more Van Hove singularities appears

The analytical study of band gap and the density of states at Fermi energy (E=0) has been carried out and compared with the data obtained from simulations. The results suggest that the simulated values agree well with the analytical values thus validating the results. The paper also analytically verifies the metallic and semiconducting behavior of the single-walled CNTs.
