Lower bounds for the tau coefficients and operator norms are derived by using composite matrix norms. For a special class of matrices S, our bounds on |\B\| (the operator norm of B induced by the i, norm) improve upon a general class of Maitre (1967) bounds for p Z 2 . 3 2 computed by using 0(n ) and 0(n ) algorithms respectively.
