The in vitro activity of selected antibiotics were determined for the strains of Bacteroides vulgatus and B. fragilis isolated from the feces and bowel tissue specimens of patients with ulcerative colitis (UC) and from the feces of healthy adults by an agar dilution method. Significant differences in resistance rates to ampicillin, tetracycline, and macrolide-lincosamide were observed between the strains of B. vulgatus, but not B. fragilis, isolated from the patients with UC and those from the
