Resumo Esta comunicação tem o objetivo de apresentar os discursos veiculados no jornal A Província, atualmente denominado de Estado de São Paulo, no período de 1870-1930, sobre o papel da gymnastica na prevenção da hysteria feminina. ... a partir do pensamento de Freud. No citado recorte histórico, foram encontradas 250 matérias que tratavam da hysteria, entre artigos, documentos oficiais, anúncios e notícias de crimes. Entre elas, foram encontrados registros da gymnastica na prevenção de tal doença. Abstract This communication aims to present the speeches conveyed in the newspaper "A Província the São Paulo, in the period of 1870-1930, on the role of Gymnastique in preventing female hysteria. That way,it selected from the collection of the said journal, materials on the subject. Then, it was quantification and categorization for decades. Finally, it used the analysis of content and organization of the material collected from the thinking of Freud. In that historical period, we found 250materials that handle the hysteria, between articles, official documents, announcements and news crimes. Amongthey, were found Gymnastique records in prevention of such disease. The Gymnastique was one of the solutions suggested by hygienists and as such was defended their inclusion in girls' schools.
