Perioperative insults, including hypotension, hypovolaemia and pneumoperitoneum may occur during laparoscopic live donor nephrectomy. These may have deleterious effects to both donor and recipient. The extent and significance of these insults is poorly understood and difficult to quantify. The aim of this study was to evaluate acute kidney injury (AKI) in the donor using the novel biomarker neutrophil-gelatinase associated lipocalin (N-GAL).
