Objective: We investigated university active transportation policies in the United States for commuter-skateboarding. Methods: Universities were selected from 12 categories (very small to large; non-residential to highly residential) via Carnegie Classification of Institutes of Higher Education (N = 360). ... hich skateboarding could be used (eg, places, times). Larger, more residential universities were more likely to have skateboarding policies. Reasons restricting skateboarding included potential property damage or injury to the skateboarder, with a notable view of skateboarding being "disruptive to the community." Environment and culture appear to influence these policies. Conclusion: Campus policymakers should consider the broader impact of commuting mode restrictions.
